As we maintain a sizeable and healthy woodland area, we manage to attract a wide variety of resident and migratory birds around our waters. Very recently we have seen Gold crests nesting at the far end of Walters Pool, clearly identifiable by (as the name suggests) its gold crest. Smaller than a Wren, it is a rare visitor and one to be enjoyed.
Besides the whole range of tits, we have Tree Creepers, Nuthatches and woodpeckers in abundance. Often seen are the nesting buzzards, and early this winter a Peregrine falcon was in much evidence. Anglers visiting the complex early in the morning will spot the many Barn Owls that nest around the waters, the blue flash of the Kingfisher as it speeds by, and the ever feeding herons that enjoy feasting on our fish and frog stocks.
We manage our woodlands properly, to ensure that both our fisheries and the wildlife benefit, as is evidenced by the number of different species we see.
Look out for our next feature on water voles, and creating the proper environment for them!!
